Justin Trudeau talks about possible actions to end the Postal Workers strike.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday said the government could move to stop strikes by postal workers that have delayed the delivery of mail. “We are preoccupied with the situation at Canada Post ... if we don’t see significant resolution shortly all options will be on the table for resolving this,” Trudeau told reporters.

New Consumer Protection Framework for Banks

The Bill C-86 proposed amendments require banks to designate an independent board committee with duties that include requiring management to establish procedures for compliance with consumer provisions, reviewing procedures for appropriateness for compliance, and requiring management to report at least once a year to the committee on the implementation of these procedures and other activities carried out by the bank in relation to consumer protection.

FTC Announces PrivacyCon 2019 and Calls for Presentations

As part of its efforts to address evolving privacy and data security challenges, the Federal Trade Commission is announcing a call for presentations for its fourth annual PrivacyCon, to be held on June 27, 2019. Information on how to submit presentations can be found on the event page. The deadline for submitting a presentation for PrivacyCon 2019 is March 15, 2019.

ACA Requests “Quick Fixes” to Parts of the FDCPA

ACA International recently provided the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection with list of “quick fixes” to the remedy some of the outdated and onerous interpretations surrounding the FDCPA. The suggested provisions for “quick fixes” would furnish consumers with clear expectations of appropriate industry conduct, while providing the accounts receivable management industry a clear roadmap to avoid frivolous litigation based upon unclear standards.

Name Checks to begin on bank payments

The name of someone receiving a payment will be as important as their banking details for the first time from next summer, in an attempt to combat fraud. At present, anyone wanting to transfer money enters the intended recipient's name, account number and sort code. However, the name is not checked. Under plans from the UK's payments operator, the sender will be alerted if the name does not match the account.

In the run-up to the GDPR, operators in the private, public and third sectors have invested vast resources in compliance. The Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) said it will expand the availability of its career portal next month after initially offering the program to candidates in the provinces. The portal provides career guidance on opportunities in the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) sector

Group Cites ‘Bam’ for backing IT, BPO Sectors

Sen. Paolo Benigno ‘Bam’ Aquino 4th was honored on Monday by the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) for his contribution to develop and strengthen IT (information technology) and BPO (business process outsourcing) sectors through legislation. He has committed to block provisions in the second package of the Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) Law, now named the Trabaho Bill, which could affect the employment of thousands of Filipino workers in the BPO sector
